Is there clinical data proves that Hoodia actually works? In 2001, Phytopharm® completed a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study in overweight, but otherwise healthy volunteers using an extract of Hoodia gordonii. The large doses of extract caused a statistically significant reduction in the average daily caloric intake. In addition, a statistically significant reduction in body fat content was also observed compared to the placebo group after two weeks. (Source: Phytopharm.co.uk) Are all Hoodia yielded the same? There are approximately 20 species of Hoodia which are grown in Africa, China, Mexico and the U.S. However, only Hoodia gordonii which are found in South Africa desert such as Botswana, Namibia and Angola contain P57 and can be expected to deliver the benefits of appetite suppression and weight control. Beware of fake Hoodia gordonii from areas other than South Africa. Look for certification called a C.I.T.E.S. license to prove authenticity of the product you are buying. Are there any side effects of Hoodia? The San Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert in South Africa have been taking Hoodia for centuries and up to now, there are no reported known side effects. |
